By now, we all know the importance of exercising regularly. Frequent physical activity can help you live longer by reducing the possibility of suffering through some rough diseases or conditions such as heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and even cancer. But, did you know that physical exercise also increases your brain’s health? Even being active for just ten minutes can positively affect your brain.

Going for a run or jumping on a treadmill for thirty minutes can take great strides in reducing stress. Such activity can level out chemicals in your brain to healthy levels. Exercise is a natural form of therapy. Anger, frustration, and stress can be easily worked out of your system through exercising. Exercise will not only increase your own self-confidence and self-worth, but will also increase the production of brain molecules that can act as natural anti-depressants.

Participating in challenging activities, such as tennis and dance, will help your brain perform in ways in normally wouldn’t. More focus and attention is paid to coordination and technique, which challenges your brain to learn in new ways.

There are numerous other ways in which leading an active lifestyle can help with your overall mental health. The important thing to remember is that your brain also needs the exercise in addition to your heart and muscles.
